How to Measure Your Piercing Size Correctly?

How to Measure Your Piercing Size Correctly?

No more guessing, poking, or buying the wrong size.

If you’ve ever bought a pair of earrings and ended up with one sticking out like a little antenna — this is for you.

Piercing jewelry isn’t one-size-fits-all. Each piercing spot (and ear anatomy!) has its own ideal gauge, length, and diameter. And getting it right? That’s the secret to a stack that not only looks good but feels good too.

Let’s break it down 👇

📏 Gauge = Thickness

Gauge is how thick the post or bar is.

  • 20G – common for earlobes

  • 18G – slightly thicker, used for some lobes or nostrils

  • 16G – standard for cartilage piercings like helix, conch, tragus

  • 14G – often seen in industrials or navels

👉 Most of our titanium flatbacks and clickers are available in 16G and 18G — the two most ear-friendly sizes.

🔁 Post Length = The Fit Factor

For studs:

Post length = distance from the back to the front, not counting the top or thread.

  • 6mm – best for healed, snug piercings

  • 8mm – comfy for most piercings (especially new ones)

  • 10mm – great for swelling, thicker areas, or high cartilage

💡 Pro tip: Start longer if your piercing is new, and downsize once it heals.

⭕ Hoop Diameter = Your Curve Fit

For hoops:

What matters is the inner diameter (measured edge-to-edge inside the ring).

  • 6mm – snug hug for helix, tragus, or forward helix

  • 8mm – versatile size for lobes, daith

  • 10mm–12mm – looser, more dramatic fit

🛒 Need options? Our Sparkle Clicker Hoops come in 6–10mm to match your unique vibe.

👂 Don’t Guess. Measure.

Grab a digital caliper or millimeter ruler.

  • Only measure the wearable area

  • Ignore balls, screw-on ends, or curves

  • Write it down (your ears will thank you later)
