Why Oumo exists
We didn't start this as a business idea.
We started it as a fix for a problem we'd both been living with — waking up with sore ears from sleeping on bad jewelry, watching pretty pieces turn our healed piercings angry and red.
We were tired of choosing between jewelry that looked cute and jewelry that was actually safe. We didn't think those two things should be mutually exclusive. So we built Oumo — with the belief that professional-grade materials, thoughtful engineering, and genuinely good design could all exist in the same piece, at a price that doesn't ask you to compromise.

How we got here
Five years. Five moments.
No funding round. No viral moment. Two women, a pile of lab reports, and one quiet idea: the metal in your ear should love you back.
We kept buying what "everyone wears" and kept paying for it — angry lobes, stubborn helixes, months of waiting. At 2 a.m., we decided to make things ourselves.
Two friends, one notebook. We drew our first flat-back by hand and set a standard we still live by: implant-grade titanium for pieces meant to sit in a healing piercing.
Soft launch. A handwritten thank-you card in every box. Customers started tagging us before we ever asked. We knew we were on to something real.
Bases, tops, charms — designed to work together. Customers stopped shopping for a single earring and started building a whole ear.

What we actually do differently
Five decisions we made before we sold a single piece.

The material
ASTM F136 Titanium — implant grade, zero nickel, SGS certified
ASTM F136 is the material standard used in medical implants. It contains zero nickel, doesn't corrode, doesn't tarnish, and won't react with sensitive skin — even during healing.
What this means for you: You can wear Oumo jewelry from day one of a fresh piercing. In the shower, pool, at the gym.
The engineering
Internal thread + threadless push-pin. No threads inside your piercing.
Most jewelry uses external threading. Every time you insert or remove the piece, those threads drag across the inside of your piercing canal — micro-tears, delayed healing, irritation bumps.
What this means for you: Oumo posts are smooth. Insertion and removal are clean.
The comfort
Flat-back design. No butterfly backs. Made for side sleepers.
Butterfly backs have tiny crevices that collect bacteria, put uneven pressure on healing tissue, and press into your pillow-side ear every night.
What this means for you: Every Oumo piece has a flat back — a smooth disc that sits flush against your skin. No pressure points. No bacteria traps.
The stones
5A cubic zirconia — the highest grade commercially available.
CZ gets a bad reputation because most of it is low-grade. The 2A or 3A stones in cheap online earrings look dull and cloudy in person.
What this means for you: Oumo uses 5A CZ. People regularly ask our customers if their Oumo jewelry is real diamonds.
