Every metal has a personality

A few gentle habits go a long way. Here's how to keep every Oumo piece — from titanium studs to sterling silver hoops — looking as good as the day it arrived.

TiSafe · for new piercingsImplant-grade metal

Titanium

Our titanium is medical- and implant-grade ASTM F136 — the same standard used in surgical implants. Completely nickel-free, corrosion-resistant, and nearly weightless.

Titanium is low-maintenance by design. A dry wipe after wear and keeping it away from harsh chemicals is really all it needs.

Do
  • Wipe with a dry, lint-free cloth after wear
  • Rinse gently with lukewarm water if needed
  • Great for everyday & healing piercings
Don't
  • Soak in chlorinated or salt water
  • Use abrasive polishing cloths or pastes
  • Drop onto hard surfaces — it can scratch

Stainless Steel

Our stainless steel is double-coated in 14k or 18k gold for a warm, luminous finish. It's tough, lightweight, and made for the mix.

The gold layer is the part that needs protecting. Keep it dry, away from lotions and chemicals.

Do
  • Wipe down after each wear to remove oils
  • Store in a cool, dry place out of sunlight
  • Apply makeup & skincare before putting on
Don't
  • Wear in pools, hot tubs, or the ocean
  • Expose to perfume, lotion, or hairspray
  • Use jewelry cleaners — they can strip plating

Sterling Silver 925

Sterling is 92.5% pure silver, alloyed with a touch of copper for strength. It has the warm weight and soft glow only a precious metal has.

It can tarnish over time — that's how real silver behaves. A quick swipe with the polishing cloth we include brings it back to new in under a minute.

Do
  • Wear it often — regular wear slows tarnish
  • Polish gently with a silver cloth
  • Store in an airtight pouch when resting
Don't
  • Expose to bleach, chlorine, or sulphur
  • Wear in the shower or to bed
  • Use toothpaste or baking soda (too abrasive)

Quick answers to common questions

If your piece isn't behaving the way it should, chances are one of these will help. For anything else, reach out — we're always happy to take a look.

Can I wear my Oumo jewelry every day?

Yes — our pieces are made for daily wear. To keep them looking their best, try to follow the golden rules above: apply skincare first, avoid water, and give each piece a quick wipe at the end of the day.

Can I shower, swim, or work out in my jewelry?

We recommend taking it off first. Hot water, soap, chlorine, salt water, and sweat all shorten the life of plating and can dull natural finishes over time. Titanium is the most forgiving, but it still prefers to stay dry.

My gold-plated piece looks dull. What should I do?

Wipe it down with a soft, lint-free cloth first — body oil and skincare residue are the usual culprits. If it still looks tired, try the four-minute gentle clean in the section above. Avoid silver polish or abrasive cloths on gold plating.

How do I clean tarnish off sterling silver?

A proper silver polishing cloth usually brings it right back — a few gentle swipes in one direction (not circles) does it. For heavier tarnish, rinse in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, then dry thoroughly with a microfiber cloth.

Can I use liquid jewelry cleaner or an ultrasonic?

For our plated pieces, no — these can lift or thin the gold layer. They can also loosen prong settings around stones. For a truly deep clean, your local jeweler can do it safely, or reach out to us for guidance.

Will my jewelry tarnish or fade eventually?

Every metal changes a little with time — that's part of what makes each piece yours. Sterling silver darkens naturally (and wipes clean), gold plating gently mellows, and brass deepens. Good habits slow all of this down dramatically.

Is it safe for sensitive skin or fresh piercings?

Our implant-grade titanium is ideal for fresh and healing piercings. Stainless steel with gold plating is also hypoallergenic for most skin types. If you have a specific sensitivity, reach out before ordering and we'll guide you to the right piece.
